Establishing microbiome collection support with the Biospecimen Shared Resource

This is one of the clinical trial logistics notes. Kit mailing is covered separately in Business Reply Mail shipping of gut microbiome samples.

  1. Ensure the BSSR is an approved site for microbiome sample processing in the IRB protocol. See Protocol language for microbiome collection.
    • Alternatively, the protocol language can be generalized to not specify where the samples will be processed.
    • Or, the processing could be specified in a lab manual
  2. Email BSSR.Requests@osumc.edu to request trial support
    • e.g.,
      • Good morning BSSR Team,
      • I am contacting you on behalf of the XXXX Lab regarding an ongoing clinical trial under the direction of YYYY. The trial includes longitudinal stool sample collection. We expect 180 samples over a two year period, starting in AA with an estimated end in BB. I have attached the completed form, along with  the most currently approved version of the protocol for your review. Would BSSR support the sample processing, documentation, and storage for this trial?
  3. If BSSR agrees,
    • complete the Project Implementation Application form
    • Send the form and the trial protocol
    • Describe the process of documentation once samples are received and processed by BSSR
      • We typically use a REDCap instrument
    • Add BSSR team members to IRB:
      • bacher.4
      • nelsen.5
      • zimmerman.411
      • urbanski.21
      • damico.139
      • snyder.1928
