Are you a postdoc interested in joining the lab?
We welcome postdoctoral researchers who want to contribute to our work at the intersection of cancer, the microbiome, and human health. The process is different from undergraduate or graduate joining on purpose. It involves a few online discussions and then a formal interview day, because the goal of a postdoc is the next job. We treat that professional development seriously.

How we hire
This process intentionally mirrors a faculty job search.
1. Send me an email
Please introduce yourself briefly, tell me why you are interested in our lab, and include:
- A short summary of your research background and the questions you want to pursue
- Your CV
- Your approximate availability or preferred start timing
2. A few online discussions
If there looks to be a potential match, we will have several conversations by video. These are a chance to talk about science, career goals, and whether the lab can support the kind of next step you want.
3. A formal interview day
Candidates we invite forward spend a day with us. You will:
- Give a seminar, often attended by multiple PIs
- Meet individually with lab members
Lab members then report on their experience and their thoughts. That feedback is part of the decision, just as it would be on a faculty search.
The day is also for you. Ask the questions that are hard to answer from a website: mentorship, independence, collaboration, and whether people feel supported in getting to the next job.
What we work toward
The scientific trajectory depends on your interests and career goals. For people aiming at an academic path, a typical plan looks like this:
- A solid paper early that can be the foundation of K99/R00 applications.
- A second paper that is nearly ready by the time the K99 phase begins, assuming one resubmission.
- The rest of the K99 focused on a third “transition” paper—the work that carries you into independence.
If your goals are different, we will plan around those instead. In every case, the postdoc is organized around the job after this one, not around staying in training indefinitely.
After an offer
If we agree that the lab is a good fit, hiring and appointment steps will run in parallel with our onboarding page for accounts, training, and lab conventions.
A note about the process
A postdoc is a short, high-stakes stretch of a career. We want you to decide whether we are a good fit for you, not only the reverse.
We encourage you to treat the interview day as practice for the search you are preparing for. Curiosity, scientific independence, reliability, and a commitment to working well with others matter more than already knowing every method we use.
